Union cronyism is alive and well in Washington. Before the election has even started, the Service Employees International Union is already endorsing President Barack Obama for a second term.
With endless paybacks to union bosses and the bureaucratic support of Obama’s National Labor Relations Board, Department of Labor and other federal agencies, it’s no surprise Big Labor is stepping up its game for 2012.
Just four years ago, labor bosses spent nearly half a billion dollars getting Obama elected in the first place.
It’s kind of strange for any organization to make an endorsement in a presidential race at this stage, don’t you think? Strange because we don’t know who the challenger is. But, if you’re a union boss, the Obama Administration has been so good to you that you don’t need to think about an alternative.
The Employee ‘Forced’ Choice Act. “Quickie” elections. The employer gag rule. “Micro-units.” The NLRB’s war against Boeing. All of this and more has been championed by the Obama White House. While workers and struggling small business owners suffer under these oppressive rules, union bosses are laughing all the way to the bank.
In 2008, SEIU bosses spent $60 million to elect President Obama. It spent $16 million in the 2010 midterm elections to back its chosen politicians.
How much will it spend this year to keep politicians in office who are putting union chiefs before workers and small businesses?
Union bosses want ‘payback’ for all the money they spent supporting candidates. And they’re certainly getting it from their allies in Congress and the Obama Administration.
Regulations supported by the Obama Administration and union bosses are hurting our economy and killing American jobs. They may be good for fattening the pockets of Big Labor bosses, but they are a danger to our nation. SEIU’s trigger-happy endorsement of President Obama should concern everyone who cares about workforce fairness and the state of our nation’s economy.
